summer vegetables

well, it's the end of summer (sad face), but the beginning of the crispness of autumn! although i will miss the warm feel of sun and the additional vitamin D it provides, windows down with my shades on, and the extra excuse to buy an ice cream cone "because it's summer", there are plenty of things to look forward to with fall approaching. in fact, today was, i believe, the first day that you could actually feel it in the air. that crisp, clean breeze that makes you want to pull out a cozy sweater and jeans, sip tea or cocoa, and sit and read a nice, long book. and (bonus!), there is the fact that the amazing colors are about to appear on the scene, especially here! i love bright colors anyways (just ask my friends or look at the clothes i wear on a daily basis), so these oranges, reds, and yellows, you can guess just make this girl happy. i will try not to think about the winter coming. brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

so, anywho, there are a few photographs i will share with you today from my recent explorations outside of instagram.

day 69: paint

i love to paint. i'm not the greatest at it, but if something is bothering me, or i'm stressed out, or i just am bored, i like to do one of four things: a, pull out my camera and take shots, b, pull out my charcoals, pens and pencils and sketch, c, paint, or d, waste time on the computer. i would say i'm best at wasting time. which is really not good. but hey, we all have our things we're working on. and that's one of mine. so today i decided to paint. and i did. not a van gogh or picasso or anything amazing, but after i did, i felt awesome. and i smile at awesome.

day 53: bottoms up!

today i thought of an ingenious (at least i think so) photo project idea!!!!!!!!

BOTTOMS UP. or, i was thinking, AT THE BOTTOM, LOOKING UP. but bottoms up is prolly easier to remember. the idea is, take pictures from low angles or looking up at the bottom of things. so often these things i think get overlooked, but as someone who notices more than perhaps i'm supposed to, i notice little edges and things often, i think. and then when i was thinking of things i could capture, it was like an endless wealth over here! so be prepared to be bored more with this whole idea. after i've exhausted all the things i can "picture" (haha, yeah, i know), i have something else in my mind's eye. so get ready, and stay tuned! because i'm WICKED excited!!! woohoo!

the idea started when i saw these three skirts hanging in a row. they looked kind of neat to me, so, although it's not the most "awesome" picture, i'm posting this one, because it started it all....

and, because i had so much fun playing crouching tiger, hidden dragon (or however it goes), here's two more shots. humorous, and because dad sat and let me take his sole-ful picture.

day 49: gerbera daisy

gerbera daisy. it's like opossum. i'm sure there are a lot more words like it, too, but i can't think of them right at the moment. one thing that i think is really cool about this particular flower is that the middle might look like an individual flower, but  in reality is made up of hundreds of tiny flowers. pretty neat, huh? if you want to read the full article, go to: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gerbera

day 37: glass and coins

gah! i have a lot of posts to catch up on. well, i guess that's what happens when you're busy having a life. you take the pictures but you don't have time to post them. well, i'll do a couple posts before i head off to work.

day 29: build me up, buttercup

today is so nice and sunny! there aren't too too many flowers blooming yet in my mother's garden (hopefully my recent weeding episode didn't kill them all...http://sevencsphotography.blogspot.com/2012/04/day-10-power.html) but here is one of her luxurious buttercup flowers.

day 24: tea

i think i'm going to have to devote more than one day to tea, i love it so much. the aroma, the tingly, bitter taste it leaves on your tongue, drying it out, and the warmth it fills me with as it travels down my throat and warms my hands with it's dry heat. Every cup I drink seems to be a time travelling cup. If I'm drinking regular black tea, I'm transported back to laying on the couch with a fever and a sore throat, still in my jammies, at six years old, when Mom made me tea to sooth the sickness. When I steep Earl Gray, I remember my brothers and I opening that iconic yellow tin and oh, how special it was when we got a cup of the bagless, loose-leaf tea.

No matter how many times you've burned me, tea, I still love you. Which is why I'm posting more than one photo of the day today. Also, today is a special day because this post celebrates the one year mark of sharing my photo obsession with you readers. A lot has happened this past year. i think i've grown a lot, not only as a photographer, but as a person, i think. well, i'll let you judge for yourself. i know what i am inside, and i'm finally becoming more comfortable with that.

thank you for all the views, but we didn't quite make it to 5k by today :( the count stands at 4594. when we make it to 5k, though, you better believe i'm bragging about it on the blog! because it will be amazing!

day 23: my desk (part one)

oh, dear, i almost forgot to take a picture today! that. would. not. have. been good.

but, haha, you still have to suffer through my mediocre photo a day challenge, until the day i actually do forget to take a picture.

i'm saying part one for today's post just because i have two desks; my computer desk, the desk i finished my high school and middle school papers on, and the desk i do most of my etsy crafts and shove papers into the many drawers of (it's a secretary desk).

what i learned from this shot:

i don't always like the color pop, surprisingly. i tried editing this one so that the only color was, you guessed it, the vibrant red of the coke bottle. then, i decided i liked the funky colored one instead. i adjusted the exposure a tad from the original overexposed pic and wound up with this:

i also guess i need to dust that filthy screen more often :(

day 17: an experiment

a while ago one of my friends (who is an amazing photographer) was telling me about a project i should try with my pictures. i tried it a few weeks ago with my mom, but i didn't really get into it as much as i wanted to (the pictures when i tried it didn't come out, but here's the link post: http://sevencsphotography.blogspot.com/2012/04/day-3-colors.html).

anyways, i was trying to figure out which picture i wanted to post today, and came up with this one, hope you like it:

day 14: a list

i'm a girl who's all about lists. even though everything usually doesn't get done, i'm a stickler for wanting to control at least one part of my life, and putting down my priorities helps straighten out all those thoughts that jumble themselves together in my brain. so today, i give you a sneak-peak of my 366 photo list. it's not finished, some days i add things to it according to what i photograph that day, and everything might not get crossed off at the end of the year (if i finish!), but, at least, everything is in order and hopefully i won't double up one day. :)

so here's hoping today went swell for you...

day 10: power

lesson one today. don't ever let me weed your garden. today, in an attempt to be helpful, i decided to weed my mother's garden. should be easy enough, you know, with all the little things barely popping out of the ground, and weeds are pretty obvious, aren't they?

apparently not. at least, in my case. mom asked me if i weeded when she got home.

"yes, i only pulled up what i was sure were weeds," i said, eagerly, as we ate dinner.

she smiled. proceeded to tell me that i pulled up a foxglove.

OOPS. well, a lesson learned.
